I invite you to experience Madeira consciously—not from place to place, not from highlight to highlight, but with time, presence, and space to arrive.
Through yoga, movement in nature, and genuine encounters with the island and the local people.
The retreat takes place in Paul do Mar, a small fishing village right on the Atlantic Ocean. Quiet, authentic, and far from the hustle and bustle. A place where you don’t consume, but stay.
This yoga retreat in Madeira is my invitation to step away from everyday life and consciously take time for yourself. Time without pressure, without constantly moving on and without the feeling that you “have to see” something.
We stay in one place.
We let the rhythm of the village, the sea, and nature work its magic.
From Paul do Mar, there are numerous opportunities for walks and hikes right on your doorstep. At the same time, there is free time to discover the island on your own terms – without a fixed plan.
This creates space for depth, for genuine moments, and for a sense of arrival that will last beyond this week. Yoga, nature, and presence will accompany you through these days – not as an achievement, but as an opportunity to get closer to yourself again.
This retreat is for people who are open to conscious travel, simplicity, and experiencing a place beyond classic to-do lists. Yoga may be familiar or new to you.
My yoga practice is down-to-earth, lively, and intuitive. It can be challenging without being overwhelming, while remaining light, honest, and present. Movement, breathing, and moments of silence intertwine—supported by mindfulness, humor, and a keen sense of the moment.
In the morning, we start actively and clearly right at the harbor of Paul do Mar, with a view of the Atlantic Ocean, the surrounding mountains, and the waterfall that runs through the landscape. Weather permitting, we practice outside in this special setting.
In the evening, yoga becomes calmer, more grounding, and more balancing. Depending on the weather, the practice takes place indoors or outdoors—always with a focus on consciously ending the day.
Between yoga sessions, there are joint workshops as well as conscious free time. This creates a balanced mix of input, exchange, and space for your own experiences.
You can find impressions and feedback from my yoga classes in Madeira in the Google reviews.
During the week, you can look forward to candle meditation, a dot mandala workshop with stones you collect yourself, and a group banana walk with a short tour of Paul do Mar. There will also be plenty of time for nature, the sea, and your own discoveries.
Everything is optional, nothing is mandatory.
The yoga retreat takes place in two villas in Paul do Mar, which are used together as an open retreat space. Yoga, food, exchange, and relaxation connect both houses into a natural togetherness. Regardless of which house you stay in, both villas are open to all participants.
The villa by the sea is located directly on the Atlantic Ocean and is the central meeting point of the retreat. Here we come together, eat together, relax by the pool, and end the day with the sound of the sea. The sea is always present here—audible, visible, and very close.
The second villa is located just a few minutes away, also in close proximity to the water. From here, too, the sea is palpable and part of the experience, without being directly on the Atlantic coast. The house is quiet, spacious, and offers a pleasant retreat with a sea view and short distances between the two villas.
Both villas are equal parts of the retreat and are shared—without separation, without judgment.
Food is an important part of the experience during this yoga retreat in Madeira – and the vegan cuisine is definitely one of the highlights.
The cooking is done by Duarte, a chef from Madeira who knows the island, its products, and its cuisine inside out. The dishes are seasonal and based on what grows here, what is ripe, and what is currently available. Many recipes are based on Madeiran cuisine and are complemented by Duarte’s own creations.
A daily brunch and three dinners together are planned. In addition, there are deliberately planned evenings when you have the opportunity to eat out in Paul do Mar or the surrounding area and discover Madeira’s cuisine in your own way.
Intolerances or allergies, such as gluten-free diets, are of course taken into account.
Both villas have fully equipped kitchens that can be used at any time. There is also a small supermarket in Paul do Mar, so you can stock up on supplies or prepare something to eat if you need to.
If you would like to find out more about Duarte and his work, you can find further information here:

What is the weather like in Madeira in October?
October in Madeira is usually mild and pleasant. Temperatures are generally above 15°C, often significantly higher. It can be sunny and warm, but also changeable. Short rain showers are possible, especially in the mountains or in the evening. That’s why we remain flexible when it comes to the location of our yoga practice.
Does yoga still take place when it rains?
Yes. Weather permitting, we practice outside. In case of wind or rain, the yoga sessions take place indoors. The routine remains the same—only the location adapts to the conditions.
Do I need a car?
Paul do Mar is ideal for arriving, walking, and hiking in the surrounding area. Many trails start directly in or above the village.
If you want to explore other parts of Madeira during your free time, renting a car is recommended. Public bus transportation is available, but it is not always reliable or flexible. A car is not a requirement for the retreat, but it does offer you additional freedom.
Are yoga mats provided?
Yes, yoga mats are available on site. If you prefer to practice on your own mat, you are welcome to bring it with you.
Is there free time during the retreat?
Yes. In addition to yoga, workshops, and shared moments, there is plenty of time for retreat, nature, and personal discovery.
