The Best Cafés in Madeira – Places You’ll Want to Visit Again and Again
Everyone has them—those cafés you keep coming back to. Places where you know exactly what you’re getting, where the quality is consistently good, and where you run into familiar faces. Especially when you’re looking for the best cafés in Madeira, these are the places that really make a difference.
In this post, you’ll find popular cafés in Madeira that are sure to impress and that you’ll want to visit again and again
I’ve found places like that in Madeira, too: small cafés where the coffee is always good, where you can drop in on a whim and just stay a while—for a moment of peace, a chat with friends, or a cozy afternoon.
Here are my five favorite cafés in Madeira—maybe one of them will become one of your new favorite spots.
XS Café Prazeres
The tiny XS Café with big charm. From the terrace, you have a lovely view of the church, and the sandwiches with beetroot or sweet potato are simply amazing. The freshly made juices are always a good choice—and if you love chocolate, you absolutely must try the Uaucacau brand. The vegan apple pie is also very tasty. I love the relaxed atmosphere here—unpretentious, friendly, delicious. Madeira Yoga Retreat: Discover yoga, nature, and authentic island moments. Escape the daily grind and experience Madeira mindfully and in a relaxed way.

Café Villa Amore – Paul do Mar
Villa Amore is the kind of family-run business you’d hope for: friendly, warm, and serving homemade cake that’s always delicious. After yoga, I often go there with my students—it’s the perfect place to wind down the morning in a relaxed atmosphere.
The café is surrounded by a beautiful variety of plants—everything is blooming, fragrant, and growing, and you immediately feel at home. Many locals also gather here to chat and share the latest news. I especially love the passion fruit tart—and Elaine, who works there, makes every visit special with her warm personality.
Gato Legal Coffee Roastery – Ponta do Pargo
Gato Legal has become a popular little coffee spot on the island in recent years. The aroma of freshly ground beans fills the air, and the homemade cake is always a highlight. They serve breakfast, sandwiches, and burgers—including vegan options. It’s the perfect spot for a break after exploring western Madeira. Cozy, delicious, and welcoming—that’s exactly what a café should be. Bonus tip: From here, there’s a lovely walk to Gaganta Funda, a viewpoint overlooking a waterfall. More here
Kamoshi Sourdough Bakery – Paul do Mar
The Kamoshi Bakery opened in Paul do Mar in October 2025 and has since become a real hotspot. The sourdough bakery is filled with the aroma of freshly baked bread, focaccia, and sweet pastries. They serve delicious coffee (from the Gato Legal roastery), chai latte, or matcha—and sometimes you have to wait a bit because it’s so popular. But it’s worth the wait, every single time.

Madeira Coffee Roasters – Santa Cruz
Stylish, modern décor and really good coffee. Madeira Coffee Roasters is a great place to stop off when you’re out and about in Funchal or want to take a short break on your way to the airport. A place where you can sit back, enjoy a freshly roasted coffee and recharge your batteries.
